ABOUT Me
Devandran Karunakaran grew up in Singapore, home to one of the busiest and largest ports in the world. It was against this setting of a bustling metropolitan life centred on the economics of speedy import and export that he decided to devote his early legal career to representing clients in ship financing arrangements and advising offshore and renewable energy businesses.

The Karunakaran household was happy and loving; Mr Karunakaran's mother was a chef specializing in authentic Southeast Asian foods, and his father was the principal of an international school. He has a huge extended family, most of whom remain in Singapore.

Karunakaran claimed his independence and launched his career in the United Kingdom after serving his country for two and a half years upon turning twenty-one.

Instruction and Learning

Karunakaran earned a law degree from the University of Leicester. The school has a stellar reputation as a leading research institution that offers cutting-edge programs to its students. Mr Karunakaran was especially skilled in the "contract law" area, which deals with the formation, enforcement, and interpretation of contracts and other legal agreements between firms. Public international law, generally known as The Law of Nations, was another area of study that piqued his attention. The rules and regulations of international relations are contained in this corpus of law.

While attending Leicester University, Devandran Karunakaran made many friends from different cultural and racial backgrounds. He made many great friends, many of whom remain close friends to this day. For instance, Karunakaran's best man at his wedding was his college roommate.

Mr Karunakaran was integral to the university's rugby squad and competed at the collegiate level. Devandran travelled to London after finishing graduate school to begin his legal career and signed a training contract with a prominent multinational law company headquartered in the UK.

Working Backgrounds
Competition for trainee legal positions in the UK is fierce, making landing a training contract challenging. But, this training program is a pre-requisite to qualifying as a UK solicitor. Fortunately for Devandran, he immediately landed a training contract with a prominent UK legal practice. He couldn't let this chance slip through his fingers. So after finishing college, he decided to move to London instead of Singapore.

After nearly 13 years, Devandran calls London "my second home." Here, he built the personal and professional relationships that would later help him land jobs with two international law firms and move to the beautiful city of Piraeus in Greece.

Devandran, who is well-respected in his field, focused his legal practice on ship financing law, offshore energy, and renewables because of his technical legal knowledge. In these roles, he strives to integrate his technical legal knowledge with commercial and business acumen for the best possible client outcomes.

In 2020, Devandran Karunakaran joined PT Indo Energy Solutions as an advisor to the board of directors, a position that soon expanded to embrace all the company did. Even though the company's headquarters are in Indonesia, Devandran maintained a presence in Singapore and travelled to other parts of Indonesia as needed.
Lifestyle and Interests
Devandran met his future wife, Cornelia, in 2015 after he returned to Singapore 2015; she was working in Germany and was on secondment to Singapore. Halle, Germany, where she was born and raised, is now considered Devandran's second city.
Mr Karunakaran takes care of his parents and has a passion for cooking. His mother, aunts, and grandmother were all great cooks, and he picked up his interest in the field from them. He aims to make nutritious versions of the comfort food he remembers from childhood.

Both Devandran and his wife, Cornelia, are very troubled by the global environment's current plight. They try to leave their kid with a better world by adopting eco-friendly habits wherever possible. Mr Karunakaran has made it a mission to devote more time to volunteer activities related to environmental causes in the future. He believes that no one should go hungry in this day and age, so he is actively involved in volunteer work linked to food security.

Karunakaran and his loved ones enjoy exploring new places. In addition to where their respective careers took them before they met, he and his wife have visited Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Switzerland, and Australia. Their ultimate goal is to instil in their young daughter a lifelong passion for travel and discovery.

The importance of maintaining a healthy body to his family is second to none. They eat well, exercise regularly, spend lots of time outside, and supplement their diet with natural remedies.
