Devandran Karunakaran
Lawyer - Ship Finance
Devandran Karunakaran grew up in Singapore, home to one of the busiest and largest ports in the world. It was against this setting of a bustling metropolitan life centred on the economics of speedy import and export that he decided to devote his early legal career to representing clients in ship financing arrangements and advising offshore and renewable energy businesses. In developing his sense of fair play, discipline, and teamwork, he enjoyed playing football (soccer), basketball, and badminton as a young man. Karunakaran is an ambitious young lawyer particularly interested in contract law and public international law. He received his undergraduate degree from the prestigious University of Leicester in the United Kingdom and then earned his law degree, focusing on contract law. Generally speaking, this law branch concerns the regulation, enforcement, and interpretation of legal and commercial contracts between businesses. Mr Karunakaran is primarily a contract law expert, but he is also keenly interested in public international law (often known as "The Law of Nations"). This branch of law establishes standards and guidelines to control and regulate international relations.
